Hello world!

Our childcare system is broken. Parents are unable to locate or afford quality care; providers and teachers are unable to support themselves or their businesses with meager system reimbursements or compensation; employers lose productivity every time an employee cannot secure reliable childcare, and children who could flourish under the supervision
and teaching of an early childhood educator are falling behind on the relationships and experiences critical to their growth and development. Urbana has a higher family poverty rate—at 23.5%—than the state of Illinois and the country. Looking specifically at family poverty, a family described by the Census Bureau as “a group of two people or more (one of whom is the householder) related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing together” reduces the skew in poverty rates created in university communities like Champaign-Urbana. In university communities, student households with low or no income either because of unreported family support or simply due to their temporary student condition can sway the overall poverty rate.

Ms. Darlene Anderson has been in the childcare business for many years and has seen her business grow beyond expectations. The limited space afforded her at her present location does not allow for future growth. Hence, expanding our operations with the new construction as a nonprofit is necessary. The nonprofit side of the business enables us to leverage additional funding to help meet the unmet needs in our community. Please bear with us as we bring Creative Children’s Center into being.
